50 to 70 madrasas of Punjab have been kept in this category.

Umar Saif said that the electronic surveillance capability of the Punjab government has increased. This not only helps in investigation but also prevents any untoward incident before it happens.

He said that the security agencies are thoroughly reviewing all the information collected about the madrassas and are monitoring the suspicious or dangerous madrassas.

Till a year ago, no institution in the Punjab government had complete information regarding madrassas. But through registration of madrassas and geo-tagging, security agencies have got all this data.

Speaking to the BBC, Mohammad Akram Kashmiri, the registrar of a madrasa in Lahore, said about the process that the policemen took information about the madrasa's students, curriculum and administration.

He said that if the government wants any cooperation administratively, then he is ready for it. He said, "Our religion says that if the government belongs to another religion and it does not interfere in your religious affairs, then obey it too."

He also said that he will not allow anyone to interfere in his religion.

After the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar, when the strategy against extremism was made, the process of registration of madrassas was started more strictly and an application was created for this purpose so that they could be geo-tagged.

Khalid Parvez, the Thanedar who registered Jamia Ashrafia in Lahore itself, said, "We first contacted the executive board of madrassas in our area and explained to them that we are doing geo-tagging due to the improvement of the country and the gravity of the current situation."

Khalid Parvez told that he keeps checking the madrasas of his area from time to time and also keeps an eye on their activities.

After the madrasas, the process of geo-tagging of Afghan refugees living in the province has been started but the pace of this work is slow.

The Law Enforcement Department estimates that the number of Afghan refugees in the state is more than 2.5 million. Of these, a third are such that they are not present at the places where they were given permits. This is the reason why there is difficulty in finding and geo-tagging the whereabouts of these refugees.
